Five drivers, one Haas seat

Haas holds an option on Esteban Ocon for a third year and has spent the summer testing alternatives to it instead. Ayao Komatsu put the contest on the record on 4 September 2026: five drivers, one seat, and a choice he said would be settled on speed rather than on what a driver brings with him.

At Baku on 23 September, Ocon called himself a free agent for 2027 and said discussions with Haas were ongoing. His departure is not confirmed. Ocon on his Haas future.

The contest has narrowed since. Brazilian reports make Rafael Camara the quickest of the candidates who drove the 2025 car at Portimão, and reporting in Europe and Brazil now puts the Ferrari junior in front.
